License Management - option for increasing 7 day activation requirement

License Management

The purpose of this document is to outline proposed enhancements, functional requirements for consideration by Bentley Development.

Problem definition:

  1. We deploy to 2,000+ field engineers who use a custom application developed on top of OpenBuildings Designer, they are casual users who perform tasks creating a diagram of a building with specific features.

  2. Our field engineers are global remote workers and due to their infrequent connection to the internet we deploy "checked out" licenses.

  3. Currently, using checked out licenses for 2,000+ users, it is time consuming to manage the individual licenses (e.g. individually check license out, update, then push to end user PC)

  4. Our company's application management is an IT function and users do not manage.

  5. We require our users to connect to company domain every 30-days to install product updates and security patches

Recommendation:

  1. We would like to use the benefits of traditional SES/SELECT license management but cannot due to the 7-day authorization requirement.

  2. Therefore, we are asking for the 7-day period to be a variable based on a company's SES/SELECT Agreement; for example with potential to defining as 30-day period to match our company requirement for users to connect to the company domain

  3. The 30-day period would also align with other vendor software agreements we have in place making our portfolio of applications consistent to manage.
